How I automated my way out of job-search admin hell

I have to admit: I've been suffering from AI process-automation-itis for the past few months. Wherever I can get away with not doing something manually, I'd rather swap out that work and bridge the ops gap instead.

So what was my actual problem - or let's say, a small inconvenience?

While searching for a new job opportunity, I realized I felt a bit overwhelmed trying to properly track all the applications I was sending out. I had a tracker in Notion, but it wasn't really systemized, and sometimes I simply forgot to add new applications there. First you apply, with all the position-specific adjustments - tailored resume, tweaked cover letter, the whole thing - and then you need to go to Notion and repeat the same work a second time. Ufff.

I tried to find something ready-made. Couldn't. (Genuinely - if you know a tool that does this, tell me.) So I came up with a solution for myself: I needed something that works right at the moment I apply, saves the information I need about the application, and sends it straight to my Notion, where I track my progress overall.

Voilà. One day of tinkering with AI later, and I want to show you my tiny pet project: a Google browser extension that saves me from wasting time on extra admin work while applying for jobs.

What it actually does?

It uses an AI API to roughly analyse the job description, shows a match score, and fills in almost all the inputs automatically. The match score is based on my own .md file with different versions of my CV, so the extension understands who I actually am, what experience I have, and which roles might be a better fit.

Then it sends all the information straight to my Notion, where I've set up a dedicated database for this. One click, and I don't need to open extra pages, hunt for browser bookmarks, or manually copy the same information again.

I've also added Google Sheets integration and support for two AI options - Claude and OpenAI - mostly for my friends who have their own preferences (and their own tracking spreadsheets).

What's next?

I’ve submitted the extension to the Chrome Web Store for review - fingers crossed for a quick approval, and then I’ll share it with everyone.

(The specific job application process shown in the video isn't real — it's just an example to demonstrate how the extension works 😇)

Let's build something great together.
